HOMEOWNERS INSURANCE

Recently, an article appeared in the Houston Chronicle, penned by "Purva Patel."  The article addresses a decision Nationwide has made, to reduce our insurance exposure along the Guld Coast.

Unfortnately, the article goes a little overboard in presenting this market driven change.  While many of the homes being non renewed are in Southeast Harris County, most are in Galveston and Brazoria Counties. 

Nationwide Agencies are simply moving these homes over to OTHER A-rated insurance carriers for the upcoming renewal year.  The ability to use other carriers is one reason you should stay with Nationwide.  If the client chooses to shop on their own, they should do that - and choose the best insurance plan for their needs.

 Since most of my clients are located farther inland, most  won't be impacted by this decision.

Other insurers have done the same thing over the years.  It's the tough part of this business. 

Some on line comments following the article attack Natiowide as being heartless, greedy, cowardly; you get the picture.   I was surprised at the amount of hatred out there, directed at Insurance Companies. One comment was, "They don't mind making money but hightail it out if theyhave to honor the claims.  Thay are no different than the other companies either."

I disagree.  Nationwide stuck with Texas during and AFTER the "mold crisis" in 2001 - 2003.  Does anyone remember that?  Nobody would write home insurance... nobody but Nationwide. 

Others feel we "should" do whatever we have to, and stay in the coastal area, because it's fair.  But, we can't ask for more premium to insure these high - exposure homes and businesses!  We really don't want socialized home insurance... do we? 

 The Commissioner of Insurance will take action if he feels ANY company is discriminating, or taking adverse action against the public unfairly. 

 So I would ask you to please, don't panic when you hear news about Nationwide?   We are strong, and financially solid.  These decisions will enable us to remain solid in the coming years, and be in good shape to pay YOUR claims when you need us.

"In 1990 we moved to Spring Texas from Nebraska.  It was a pleasant climate change but we were shocked to learn Harris County was one of the most epensive areas in the country for insurance.  For 3 years we searched for more reasonable insurance rates to no avail.  Finally in 1993 a neighbor referred us to Leon Keeble and his newly opened NATIONWIDE agency.  We'd never heard of Nationwide but were willing to get a quote.  Not only was Leon able to save us nearly $800 a year but we learned that what Leon says, Leon does.   Others had promised us personal service before but Leon really meant it.  During the first year a water pipe burst during the night and our home was quickly flooded with 4" of water.  I was out of town and suggested that my wife call Leon...."
